(The Chrysanthemum and the Sword: Patterns of Japanese Culture)

Stanley Benedict
Chemist of America December 21, 1936 - March 17, Stanley Benejikuto (Stanley Rossiter Benedict) 1884 years. "Benejikuto reagent". Discovery and development Benedict solution (Benejikuto solution). I developed for diagnosis of diabetes.

Benedict reagent
The reagents used in the detection of aldehydes and reducing sugar. A mixed solution of sodium citrate, sodium carbonate, copper sulfate. Stanley = Benedict of the United States is developed for the detection of sugar in urine. It is used, such as science experiments now. Benejikuto solution.

Benejikuto solution

It is an indicator (Benejikuto Station, Station Benedict, Benedict's reagent) Benedict solution and is used to detect (maltose, fructose, glucose) and a reducing sugar. I also referred to as "Benejikuto reagent".

Stanley R. Benedict of the United States, was developed for diagnosis of diabetes in 1911.

Simple measurement for the degree of diabetes in the home, being used as an experiment for science in the school at present.

Since it is heated by the addition of the reagent to a sample containing a sugar having a reducing, resulting reddish brown precipitate of copper oxide, used for sugar detection.

There is Fehling's solution to substances that exhibit properties similar, but they excel and that do not respond to (urea) substances other than sugar is Benejikuto solution, in that it can withstand long-term storage. (On the other hand, Fehling's solution. Reaction is sensitive than the liquid should Nejikuto)

Note, it becomes metallic copper oxide copper only if certain conditions such as when reacting with particularly strong reducing agent was prepared, and once generated is reduced further, copper mirror is produced in the reactor walls. Sometimes referred to as bronze mirror reaction especially this.

Wife is Ruth Fulton Benedict. (To marry Stanley Benedict 1914 biochemist (1931 divorce))

Born in New York on June 5, 1887, died on September 17, 1948, Ruth Fulton Benedict (Ruth Fulton Benedict) is a cultural anthropologist in the United States. "The Chrysanthemum and the Sword," which I wrote about Japanese culture is famous.
Columbia University professor.

The Chrysanthemum and the Sword (The Chrysanthemum and the Sword: Patterns of Japanese Culture)
In the most famous book of Ruth Benedict, Japanese culture theory of American cultural anthropology history first. It was published in 1946 based on the research of wartime. It hangs about the value of Japanese culture and law obligation, such as humanity, was proposed Japan a "guilt culture" western "culture of shame". I have written to military consult for information about enemy Japan for war initially to be behavior of Japan, lifestyle are unique to Japan is emphasized. In addition, there is a criticism also that by sin and shame, which compares Western and Japan. But now, poet spirit is also reviewed pacifist manner, from her anthropological position again for this work.

She wrote up to the day-to-day trivial Japan in this book, but have never came to Japan she. Own research, depicts this book by experience and analysis with large amounts of data because it was a time when you have already entered the Second World War. The depth of the analysis, arrogance of the academic ability of her suggests from sharpness.
